Dear Mr. Levin:
Your book Rescuing Sprite came very highly recommended to me by someone who knew about the loss of my dog \”Bubba\” who would have been 15yrs old on Oct. 16, 2008. I had to have Bubba put to slept this past Mon. Sept.29,08. I was having such a hard time and still am, so she suggested that I read your story. I stopped yesterday at Border\’s books and bought a copy and read it completely last night. I cried and I smiled. I too am a dog lover and Bubba was my best friend. I got him as a Christmas gift for my youngest son when he was around 11yrs old. Although it was my sons dog, he and I became close companions. He has been with me through a devastating divorce of my sons father and through the death of my father and several surgeries that I myself have had. Bubba was always there to greet me at the door when I came home from work and never left my side when I was really down and out emotionally. Last Friday my friend got to the point of not eating or drinking. Just laid beside of my bed, I had to help him outside and sometimes even had to carry him which was a chore. See Bubba was about 85lbs, a mix of Black Lab, Husky and Cocker Spaniel. He looked like a golden retreiver. He was just a beautiful dog and friend. I almost lost him about 2 yrs.. ago when he got really sick, but the vets at Cumberland Valley Animal Hospital brought him back on several medications. The vet did tell me that he was getting very old and having several issues that I soon would have to make the decision of putting him down. Read the rest of this entry »

Today is the day I put to rest my beloved dog, Brandy. Brandy was an old boy, who gave me 15 years of love and loyalty and asked for nothing back in return.
At 11:30am this morning, as the needle was inserted into his frail little leg, Brandy looked through my eyes, deep into my soul and asked the question \”why? Why are you doing this to me?\” a few seconds later he was gone forever and my heart shattered into a million pieces.
Reading this book has given me some comfort and I have promised myself not to feel quilty over ending his life. It has also inspired me, in time, tofind another Brandy to look after and love as much as my heart can give.
Thank you
Sleep tight stupid dogbot! I love you so much puppy love. xo

Thank you Mr. Levin for giving us the opportunity to tell others about our beloved furbabies. I am so sorry for your loss.
My sweet little Meggie became very ill on September 23 with congestive heart failure. I held her and whispered to her how much I loved her as she went to sleep. Meggie was almost 13 and she was my constant companion. I’m visually impaired and although Meg, a little pek-a-poo, was not a Seeing Eye Dog, she knew to walk me around small obstacles and to the curb cutouts. She knew when I was feeling bad or when I was sad. Meggie knew just what to do to help out her mom. It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever made to let her go. I still look for her in every room. I still catch myself just before I call her name to see if she wants to go ‘walky’. I miss seeing her on her sheepskin throw in front of the storm door watching the neighborhood. That was her favorite spot and I would open the front door to let her look out the storm door even in the winter. Waking up is so hard because I don’t have Meg to walk and then to fix her breakfast. Going to bed is just as hard, because taking Meg out was the last thing I did before getting in the bed. Meggie left me on September 29. When her little ashes come home I hope I will feel better. Meg needs to be home so I can say good morning and good night to her.

We were proud owners of a German Shepherd named Scooby for 9 years. Shortly after the birth of our son, the illness scooby been fighting for over a year finally took his life in April. I was devastated to say the least, afterall, he was my “furry” child. I couldn’t look at another dog and even writing this brings tears to my eyes. He was the first dog I had ever owned and raised from a puppy – now I can understand the love and devotion people can have with their dogs. The hole left in my heart was deep and I never thought I could ever love another dog, especially since any dog I went to see just didn’t pull at my heart – until the day I met Bandit – he was this little adorable puppy stuck at a local shelter looking for a new home – we went to meet him and for the first time in months, I felt my heart beat again – He is an active little guy with a big heart – he’s currently in training to become a “therapy dog” and is a natural at it – he has been to the nursing home and just has this amazing affect on people that is inspiring.

Dear Mr. Levin, My wife bought me your wonderful book “Saving Sprite” less than a week ago. I finished it in just two days, and am not ashamed to admit I cryed like a little kid. I had a pure bred Beagle named Jake who came into my life at a time when I needed a friend very much. I had ended a poor relationship and lived alone. Jake came to me in a very round about way but, we bonded the minute we met. He went everywhere with me. Being disabled, I spent my entire day with Jake, and we were seldom away from each other.
Good times came along and I re-married. Jake and I moved to a new home with a wonderful person who showered us both with love and kindness. I began to notice a slight change in Jake’s behavior after about a year with my new wife. He became aggressive and began to shy away from my wife and I. One day Jake snapped at my wife without cause. A few days later he did so again and when I tried to control him he went after me. A visit to the Vet, a behavioral specialist, revealed to me that Jake was trying to take over as the Alpha in our home. I did some checking and found Jake had been physically abused literally from birth and in several different homes. The Vet told me he would need intense training six hours a day and six days a week to get him back under control.

I’m very blessed to share my life with a wonderful dog name Lilly, who was found by some friends in the median of I-45 in Houston, which is an eight lane highway. She brings so much joy, no only to me, but to all those whom she meets. She is so funny that she also brings a lot of laughter, too. Here is a picture of her driving the Winnebago in her feaux leopard fur coat. I hope it makes you laugh. Thanks, Mark for all you do! appreciate you! God bless!
