Listener Stories

Duke

Dear Mr. Levin,

My name is Kiah. I’m twelve years oId and I am a big dog lover. I just lost my best friend to old age a few weeks ago. One night we came home and went out to feed him. When we got to the kennel, my Duke was lying on the floor; too weak to get up. We tok him inside, and after a while he felt better. He was still so weak, though, so a few weeks later we took him to the vet and said our final goodbyes.

We buried Duke in our back yard, underneath the lilac tree where he loved to lay in the coolgrass in the hot summer. Bricks were layed around the grave, and we planted a bleeding heart tree there to remind us never to forget the dog that won our hearts.

Six months after i was born, my mother died of a brain tumor. I didn’t know her, so I guess I don’t have a very good excuse to cry for her. But I do, and when I do, I think of all of the kids who have an amazing mom and know that my mom would just as amazing and maybe even better.

Remember:
God doesn’t send you the lives you want, He sends you the lives you need. Every one of the beings you have met, have impacted you to make you a great person.

I will never forget Duke. And seriously,he was the one who taught me how to walk. Make a difference in the lives of others. You’ll never regret it.

Sassy

Mark, I was introduced to your show after reading Saving Sprite. I respect and admire you for all you do. Right now I am Desperate. Last Monday evening someone stole my Pomeranian out of my front yard. My wife and I are beside ourselves with grief. I am trying every resource that I can think of to get her back I know that there are listeners to your show from Montana and if you could mention this on the air maybe someone would have some information. I live in Billings, Montana and my contact information is 406-861-6591 e-mail ssperle52@bresnan.net . The little girls name is Sassy, and she is tan with a light brown nose. She is 9 years old and needs a special diet to live. I am begging for help and do not know where to turn. I have tried every resource I could think of locally. I thought I should try to call you, but right now I could not keep my composure. I understand if you can’t help, but appreciate more than you know if you do. God Bless you and your family.

Sincerely

Rob and Sherry from MT

He lives w/his family my husband and I our two sons and 3 cats. We call him Spot the noble because of his wonderful temperament!

Valentine

About a month ago my girlfriend and I started looking at adopting a cat. She had a cat growing up and I never had any animals because my family traveled alot. We visited a couple of adoption days and didnt find any cats that really took to us. While looking around online we stumbled upon a shelter in NYC and this wonderful little guy named Valentine. He is about one year old and has already been through alot. He was named Valentine because he came into the shelter on Valentine’s Day 2009 with 2 broken legs and punctured lung after being hit by a car. He has made a full recovery and it completely healthy except for his front right foot which is paralyzed. But other than this he loves to play and has tons of energy. He is just as happy rolling around on the floor playing with feathers as he is relaxing on the couch watching the Yankee game with me. Thanks to you Mark we looked at shelters and that was the only way Id get a cat. This little guy picked us. We only picked him up on June 3 bu the is already making himself right at home and I couldnt be happier about it.

Prince, Aubie & Little Man

Mark,
There’s always been a dog, or two, around my parent’s house all of my life. One in particular, a German Sheppard we called Prince, had more sense and personality than most people I’ve met in life. To be honest, I’m not sure he knew he was a dog. God, I loved that animal. But because of Prince, and the other dogs we’ve had, we all just considered ourselves “dog people”, and it never occured to us to bring a cat into the house. Until last October. My wife and I left the house late one night to get ice cream at the local convenience store. (more…)

Briar

We adopted Briar from the Humain Society when I returned from Iraq. During the adoption I dont remember being at all excited or crazy about the idea. The kids really wanted a dog and my wife was home alot and needed some company. All I could think was I hope she is house broken. Its six years later and I believe that Briar saved my life. After Iraq I was hurting inside. I just wanted quiet and to move on with my life. She healed my heart with her unconditional love. She gave me countless smiles when she would throw away all pride roll around and whine for a treat.

When we went fishing I could talk to her for hours about things that I didnt feel comfortable talking about but had to be said. Sounds crazy I know but my life was that at the time. About 3 months ago while i was working I received a phone call that she slipped past the door and chased a deer into the road and was hit by a car. I needed her at that time in my life more then anything. She never once turned me down for fishing on the boat. She was and will always be my best friend.
