Listener Stories

Angus

I’ve just had my favorite dog, Angus, sent over the bridge. He wandered onto our plave a bit over a year ago. Scraggly, matted, starved and near death, he walked a few steps from under a pickup on the place.

We didn’t expect him to live but watered and fed hime and cleaned him up a bit. He survived the nite and we took him into our home. I always wondered at the stories he could tell from his long days on the road.

We became fast friends. He was clearly my favorite and I was his.

We had a great year together and I was happy to have given the old boy a peaceful, loving last time on earth.

Old age and his travels took their toll tho. In the last couple weeks he declined so quickly …. My heart broke as I watched him struggle the last couple days.

The vet said there was little to help his failing kidneys and congestive heart conditions. When he quit eating and could no longer stand I knew it was time.

Our vet is a man with soul and compassion. Linda and I stayed with Angus during the process, loving him and holding him till the end.

At 56 I don’t cry much anymore. But this morning I couldn’t help myself. I lost a great friend and miss him terribly.

La Reine Blanche

After being a very strict, non-dog person for many years, I finally have one. This lil cutie is 3/4 jack russell and 1/4 border collie was born 1/7/09 and has been with me in my truck since she was 4 weeks old. Her name is La Reine Blanche and is a very spunky lil girl. Loves to run in the tall grass and play fetch. She is such a great companion out here on the road and loves to sit and look out the window as the miles pass by.

Beasley, Bean

I loved your book about Sprite! After my beloved boxer Beasley (10 years) passed away from cancer, I was devastated! She was my heart! She can never be replaced, but I did get a cute little boxer that I named Paula Dean Butter BEAN. I took her to puppy kindergarten, and continued taking classes. I eventually joined 2 obedience/agiltiy clubs. Bean is a little over two years old now…she is a joy! We are working hard to enter our first AKC obedience and agility competitions…which we are having great fun learning the ropes! The best thing about Bean is her sweet and loving nature…she earned her CGC/TDI certificate and we now do pet therapy. It has been a true blessing to be able to visit the sick & elderly in nursing homes…Bean brings them unconditional love and lots of kisses! Bean brings joy & happiness to others which is a true gift. She makes me smile everyday, as she is quite the clown! She brought me out of my shell after a long depression, and basically gave me a new lease on life. I love her dearly, and am truly thankful that God sent me this bundle of energy that keeps me on my toes…and we never have a dull moment!

Nick

Our story starts in March 2007 when we adopted out first pet Nick, an abused Shar Pei. We found out that he was thrown from a moving car and nursed back to health. He was doing quite well when we adopted him from Animal Welfare. However, by August he developed a lump on his neck that was found to be Cancer. He quickly when down hill from there and we lost him in March of 2008. My wife and I were torn about getting another dog. We were still hurting from the loss of Nick.

Two days later, I came home from work and my wife said that she had something for me to look at. She had the Animal Welfare site up and a little puppy named Angel was looking at me with big brown eyes. Our house was too quiet, so we adopted her the next day. Angel, a year and a half, now goes to work with me, watches TV with me, as well as listening to the Mark Levin Show everyday. I think she knows that you like dogs Mark!! 

I just want to say, take a chance on adopting a pet. It will make you life complete.

Barney

My dogs name is Barney.  Three years ago Barney was adopted by a family from a kill shelter when he was 2 years old.  He is a Comfort Retriever.  Half Retriever and half Cocker Spaniel.  The family that adopted him allready had another dog at home that they couldn\’t be around because of one of the owners asthma, so after only 2 weeks of having him, they were going to send him back to the kill shelter.  Barney, being smart as he is, kept digging a whole under their fence and running away to my sisters house down the street.  Due to the fact that my sister allready had 2 100lb. retievers of her own, one being a very dominant male; she could not keep him.  My daughter called me from their house and said that I had to come over and see this dog that kept running away to their house.  Reluctantley, I went over their.  We allready had a 14 year old, very angry, aggressive cat and a 9 year old Chiweinee (half daschund and half chihuaha).  I told my daughter their was no way that we were taking on another pet.  When I got to my sisters house and went in Barney came running up to me and gave me big kisses and wouldn\’t leave my side.  I finally agreed to take him home and try him with our other animals.  The second he came in our house the first thing he did was run and jump up on the couch like it was just natural to him.  Now every night he sleeps in bed with me and my husband and has to give me a kiss every night before he lays down to go to sleep.  He\’s now a 5 year old baby.  I spoil him rotten and don\’t apologize for it.  I don\’t know that he was ever allowed inside a house because every time it thunders, he wants outside to run and chase the lightning and thunder like that is what he\’s use to.  Always being stuck outside.  Also, I think someone must have abused him with a water hose at some point becuase he\’s terrified of the water hose and water in general.  (more…)

Angel

This is about my Angel.  She is a 9 year old American Eskimo.  I have raised her from the time she was 6 weeks old and she is our friend, companion and protector.  Everyday when I come home from work she jumps up on the bed and rolls over for me to rub her belly.  She is such a loving dog.  A few weeks ago I noticed she seemed to be squinting a lot, I thought maybe a problem with her eye.  A few days later I let her outside and realized that this dog cannot see.  I immediately took her to the vet and his diagnosis was not good. He took a biopsy and sent it off.  All along we prayed and hoped for the best. But we received the news it was cancer and she had 4-6 months to live.  She has given us so much joy, and it pains me so much to know there is not much I can do for her.  We are trying to make life as happy and normal for her as possible.  I  just wanted everyone else to know that although we know this will not end the way we want,  we will always love her. And we know she is going to be a great friend waiting for us in heaven.  God have mercy and care for our precious Angel. Here is a picture of her and her little brother Max.. Max on the left and Angel on the right.
