Listener Stories

Jackie

Book about Sprit’e got my 11 old daughter from my mum because the dog from the cover is looking like our dog Jackie. I read it first and did the huge impression on me. Power of emotions placed in this book exceeded my expectations. Mainly it brought up my feeling which I had for the dog from my childhood of, also similar Misio to Sprit’a but also and of current dog which I had to leave behind in Poland after the move to England. Very much I am missing it but for different reasons it isn’t possible for him can to us attach to UK. Very much I am missing him but for different reasons it isn’t possible for him can attach to us stayed under the care of my mum and even though I know that he is happy with her my longing is great. In the introduction of the book it is recalled, that it can move to tears and I cried through the entire book. I think that it was an outpouring of emotions a long time ago hidden but never forgotten… because still I remember the touch of the hair of each of dogs, their smiling faces, habits, smell, voice of barking… I thank for the alternative of bringing memories up although so much they are causing pain and losses are summoning sorrow wonderful friends. Tkank You once again…

Sombra

My Doberman, Sombra was my love. She was beautiful, smart and sweet. If she had been a person, she would  probably be Princess Grace. I got her shortly after getting married and she saw me through birth of 2 babies and sadly, my divorce.  She got cancer after only 9 yrs. 1 yr or 100, it\’s never long enough Mark! She wasn\’t in any pain, she still wanted to play but the tumor was on her shoulder so i had to make sure she could catch her ball and not let her go after it. I watched her carefully and when her poor leg started to turn a bit I knew I had to put her down. The vet warned that her leg would break and I didn\’t want that. I made sure I was with her. We buried her in the yard (I didn\’t bother to ask the city if it was ok.) It was years ago but I still love her.I\’ve had to put a few of my favorites to sleep and a few went on their own. It\’s heartbreaking but it\’s part of the deal. I have a 1 yr old Newfoundland Hound now and when I brought Murphy home a few days after losing my poodle of 12 yrs, I thought,\” In 9 to 12 yrs my heart will be breaking again.\”  Until then though,I\’m gonna  play with my dog!!

Madison

Maddie (short for Madison) was rescued from a shelter when she was 6-8 weeks old. She was a German Short Hair / Springer mix, as far as we can tell. I would take that mix again in New York minute. My wife and I thought we were brilliant dog trainers, but came to find out that she was just a brilliant dog. She never needed a fence or a leash, caught a mean frisbee, and could understand full sentences. She blew out her ACL, and made it through surgery. When she blew out her other ACL, she was ten years old and also had a tumor on her thyroid, so surgery was not an option. We prayed for her, and that leg healed on her own, giving her a full year until the tumor got the best of her. One of the hardest days of my life. When she was 8, we brought her a playmate: a full-bred German Shorthair pointer named Bitsy. When Maddie died, Bitsy missed her so much she turned gray in 3 weeks. We had to bring her a playmate, so now we have two pointers: Bitsy and Sadie. But nothing will ever replace Maddie. Some dogs are just llke that.

Sam and Moose

Hello Mr. Levin. My name is Danielle and I am 25 years old. My husband is currently deployed and I first wanted to say thank you for bringing light to the issues that truly matter in our country. I also wanted to tell you that I am a huge dog lover. I have a golden retriever and a black lab (Sam and Moose) and they keep me company while my husband is away. Anyway, I came across this quote from Woodrow Wilson and I thought you might enjoy it.

If a dog will not come to you having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.
~Woodrow Wilson

Thank you for your time. Have a nice day and may the Lord Bless you beyond belief!

Sincerely, Danielle from CA

Ava

We had a wonderful domberman for 13 years. When she passed we thought she could never be replaced. We took the chance and although she was not replaced… we found an incredible friend and companion…. Ava….

Jade & Cleo

I wanted to share with you two pets we have currently; Jade, our calico, and Cleo, our Chihuahua.

We rescued Jade approximately five years ago from a local SPCA, she is very vocal and loves to watch water trickle from any faucet that with you would entertain her. Of course she sits in the bathtub each morning and evening; and anytime inbetween that you may head toward a bathroom. You wonder what may have occurred in her previous -rescued life that she is so facinated with water.

Cleo, had been adopted before Christmas 2008 from a Rescue we found a couple States away. She was very thin and no life to her at all – probably depressed. Cleo is now our little “watch dog” and had taken over the house! I don’t think there is anything that she would not love to eat! She and Jade are not the best of friends, but are very happy in their new lives.

My very best friends were Sammy (cocker spaniel) and Cassie (rescued calico). Both have since passed. I miss both very much – and we also planted flowers and memorials for them.
