Listener Stories

King, Riggs

Mr. Levin,

I just finished reading your book rescuing Sprite, and I cried and I laughed. Thank you for sharing your story. When I was in first grade My parents bought me a German Shepherd for Valentine’s Day. I named him King. He was my brother, constant companion, and best friend. He loved car rides, long walks, playing with tennis balls, and just spending time with his family. Sadly on Feb. 13th 2004, when I was 19 and in my sophomore year of college my beloved King passed away. I was devastated because it would have been 13 years together. I was sad and angry that he left me before our special day. My mom said he chose the day befoire our special day because he would only want me to remember our happy times on Valentine’s and not have it be a sad day. I think about him everyday. In my grief I was very lonely and missed my friend. After some time an ad in the newspaper caught my eye; and a few weeks later a little German Shepherd puppy came in to my life, his name is RIggs. Thank you again for sharing your heart warming story. I am sure that King and Sprite are playing in heaven. God Bless.

Sincerely,
Mary from PA

Hello GREAT ONE. HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY BOY RED. I DIDN’T PICK HIM HE PICKED ME. WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR AN AUSSIE PUPPY I WENT TO MEET SOME GREAT PEOPLE WHO BREED AUSTRALIAN SHEPARDS. WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THE PUPS AND WAS TRYING TO DECIDE HE (RED) CAME UP TO ME FROM OUT OF NOWHERE AND SAT IN FRONT OF ME AND MADE DIRECT EYE CONTACT WITH ME. MY REACTION WAS DAMN! WE MADE A CONNECTION RIGHT THEN. HE IS 7 NOW AND JUST AS LOYAL AS CAN BE. I THANK GOD FOR THIS FUR BALL. AND HE IS SMARTER THAN A LIB TOO!

Crickett, Blackie and Greystone

Hey Mark,
I”am the one that has written to
you about our sweet yorkee
“Crickett”..
But this story is about some
rescued Cats.. Came about the same time we said bye to Crickett.
We live out in suburbs and people just drop off cats. So i leave food outside..We had one big fat spoty cat they came
and ate sat in the sunshine. He brought a female cat a Russian Blue she had kittens and we got homes for them..She has stayed
with us we tk her to the Vet for shots and no more kittens..She was very protective and a guard cat she would growl at stranger. Well this past fall another poor black cat came through the yard and started eating we tk care of him he was in terrible condition bare spots on his body and mouth was deformed.. But he is now healthy and happy .He Blackie and Greystone have made friends…Every night we put them in the garage and this winter bought them both igloo houses to sleep
in they both crawl into one
igloo and sleep together.
They stay out during warm
days and at night run to the
garage..They are both sweet and company..
Yet, they are not like our Crickett..
Love Listen to you every night
at bed time

Ponce de Leon

Two and one half hours ago I had to make the decision to put my cat, “Ponce de Leon”, to sleep. I listen to the radio show almost every evening and remembered this web site.
I will add him to this page…
He was one of four kittens born in my closet 8 years ago.
I named him “Ponce de Leon” because he was the first of the four kittens to venture and explore outside of the closet.
He was the most affectionate cat and loved to be held. When I was in my home office, (with the door shut because he would love to have my undivided attention and walk across the computer key board), he would sit outside the doors and meow at me until I would come out and hold him. He would cuddle with me by putting his head on my shoulder and rubbing my neck with his nose. He purred so loud.
I will miss those moments most. He made the funniest faces, like a cat “Scooby Doo” and would make me laugh!
When I was sick, he would lay with me as if to comfort me. He could since when I needed his affection and would snuggle with me. He had been sick for several months and he was not going to get better. I petted his head while the injection was administered so he could feel me until he was gone.
He has only been gone for a few hours now but I miss him with all my heart. I will miss him forever as he was a very special cat and a child to me. I am thankful that he was in my life for what now seems like 8 short years. I will cherish the pictures that I have of him and never forget all of the “special times” that we had together. Thank you for letting me share this…With much love,

Diane from FL

Hoping For a Speedy Recovery

Hi Mark,
Really enjoy your show and love of dogs. Mine recently had surgery on his nose for cancer. Our doctor stated that his prognosis is good but he definitely needs to overcome the invasive surgery. I spent most of the night up with him last night as his breathing sounded disturbed. With all that, it’s nothing compared to what he has given to me. All people at the vet clinic said hes one of the best dogs they have worked with and he is the quintasential dog in that his main priority is loving people.
I’m a lucky guy and pray for his healing.
