Listener Stories

Bullet

My story is being written. It is about our Bullet. He bravely fought cancer for two and a half years. While receiving a necessary treatment, the greedy and cruel Veterinarians in Ft. Pierce, Florida, different than our regular vets, Cardiologist and Oncologist but recommended for an emergency blood transfusion, took advantage of having him in their facility for one procedure and filled him full of chemicals for several “diseases” that he did not have. They gave him more chemo that was not due. They shaved him in three places for procedures that had already been done, leaving him raw and sore. They did not phone me or check with his other vets before any of these procedures. We lost him soon after I fought to get him out of there, forced to wait three hours in the waiting room to get him with the people disappearing into the back, refusing to give me my baby and charging me $3000.00 for a $300.00 procedure he was scheduled for.
I made out the proper complaint to the State of Florida and heard nothing. I contacted my Representative and it is now five months and I have heard nothing. I provided everyone contacted with documents and photos.

I feel if the DBPR had done it’s job in an efficient and timely manner, cruel and greedy Veterinarians such as these would have thought twice about the botched serum that was given to 21 beautiful polo ponies in Florida. There clearly needs to be a shakeup in the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Sparky

I read your book as soon as it came out. At the time I had two healthy cats and a new dog of only 6 months old. The book was hard to read at times, but I thanked God that I was not in this situation. Recently, however my cat, Sparky, was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma, a cancer that is non-operable and terminal. He was given 1-2 months to live. It has been a month. He is not in pain and eats good. He does not have much energy. I am re-reading the book and I can tell you, It is a different story to me now. It has helpd me in so many different ways. It has helped me to see the true joy of sharing my life with my pets. I know the day will come when I will have to do the same as you, Mr Levin, I hope I can have the strenght to do it for my Sparky. Thank you for the touching words you have shared with us.

Liberals are Dirt

I just wanted to say that I was going to buy Liberty and Tyranny but decided on Rescuing Sprite. It hits home. I already know liberals are dirt. Thanks buddy!

Sabrina

The year – 2003 – a friend emailed me and asked if I could foster a Pembroke Welsh corgi who needed a new home. I agreed and took Sabrina in. I soon found that she had buffaloed her owner and that was the reason she had a hard time finding a new home for her. (Her owner was relocating to South Africa). She finally resorted to involving a Corgi rescue group.

I ended up keeping Sabrina as I fell in love with her feisty personality and after a few weeks of consistent, loving discipline, I had a dog who was the light of my life. Like a lot of corgis, she needed a leader!

This picture was taken a day after she was diagnosed with inoperable spinal cancer and given 3-4 months to live. We managed almost a year with steroids but the disease finally claimed her. She left me, snuggled in my arms, eating a piece of boiled chicken, her favorite treat. I still miss her.

Harley

I do ok with people, but much prefer animals…they are more honest and loyal. I am licensed in the state of Virginia to do wildlife rehab. My specialties are squirrels (my favorite), bunnies, bats and fawns. I currently have three dogs, but am heartbroken that my little poodle, Harley is no longer with us. She was a victim of the bad dog food thing! She is so missed.

Baby

for 14 years I had a mixed breed dog, a lap dog (Baby). I have always preferred small dogs… but I like all sizes.

Anyway this dog meant so much to me. whenever i had problems, she was there to console me. As i heard someone else say once… She was a short kid, in a fur coat. That dog was in tune with me, she knew when i was happy, upset, or whatever.

a couple years ago she was poisoned by the tainted food that got in Walmart brand dog food. by the time I found out about the problem it was too late. I watched her waste away over several weeks. Part of me wanted to put her down, but at the same time a part of me hoped she would somehow recover. She didn’t get better, only worse. Until her kidneys shut down. I made my mind up to have her put to sleep, cause for the first time i recognized suffering… she didn’t make it through the weekend. She fought death so hard, and it was so hard watching her. finally i was petting her, i told her it was ok, she could go. within 10 minutes she passed. Somehow i know that dog understood me. She knew what i meant. If you ever had a dog that was so close to you, you know what I mean. For the 8 years I had her, she gave me so much hapiness, and joy.

After she died i researched it and found that dogs are only property, and her value would be only a few dollars so far as a court would be concerned. $20-25m or so. I just found that something so priceless to me, was of no real value to a court. There was no good reason for legal action, in my view.

If you had anything to do with the company that poisoned so many animals, you should be ashamed for what you did to so many.
