Gizzy

We rescued Gizzy, a little old Pug of 12 years, almost four years ago. We picked up Gizzy at Times Square via a rescue call to us. The word was come and pick up this old guy, because the owners wanted him no more and were going tp put him down. It was a cool October day, and my wife brought him to our home in upstate New York. He had an old sad face, and horrible allergies. He could barley walk and his paws were black from his constant licking; an obvious sign his allergies were severe. We also realized that his severe allergies had taken his ability to hear. His spine was visible and crooked towards the ground due to his hind muscle loss. Despite all his physical faults, I fell in love with him. With proper diet, Vet care and lots of love, Gizzy made a remarkabkle recovery and thrived in our home. Hi allergies had cleared up, and he was now able to walk. He became one of our family, which included seven Pugs. (Five of who were rescues). Gizzy found warmth, comfort anfd Joy. For the first time in his life, he was loved and was happy. You could see that happiness on his face as we took him for walks and on Summer vacations. (more…)

Frisco and Lacy

Steve Lamb is a local sportscaster for WBAP (The 50,000 watt blowtorch of the Southwest.)  He has spoken of his dogs – Frisco and Lacy for years.  He recently had to put down his beautiful Border Collie – and since he is a great proponent of dogs, and a supporter of the conservative movement, I have taken it upon myself to let you know.

God bless you and keep up the good work!!!

Max

Max came to us on July 4th 10 years ago. He was 8 weeks old. This July 4th his favorite people came and spent the afternoon with him. Each one sat one on one and pet him, hugged him and loved on him all afternoon well into the evening. Today, July 6th we took him to the Vet and had him put to sleep. He had a tumor pressing on his digestive tract and couldn’t eat. To weak to undergo surgery and un able or unwilling to eat, we had to let him go. Here’s to you MAX, enjoy your run in Gan Eden (the Garden of Eden) with my mom Ella Jean and my mother in law Berta, who went on before you. In my 52 years I never knew a better Dog. May his memory be for a blessing to all who had the priveledge to know him.

Ladybug

I just read about this wonderful org. maybe Mark can mention it.KINGSTON – Ladybug was an old dog with lots of problems. Her missing teeth and bad breath were just the tip of the iceberg. Ladybug also had chronic kidney disease, vestibular disease, often known as “old dog disease,” a heart murmur, and cataracts in both eyes.
But none of her problems stopped Kingston residents Marlo Manning and her husband, Ed Foley, from adopting Ladybug from the Kingston Animal Shelter.
“It was really said,” Manning remembered. “She had a pill tray Monday through Sunday. We’re not rich, but we could afford her medical bills and prescription food.”
The vestibular disease gave their “Buggy Girl” vertigo for up to two weeks at a time. She also suffered from “doggie dementia” and would lose track of where she was and then panic. It wasn’t all bad though, Manning said.
“She was a wonderful girl. She was advertised as 8-years-old when we adopted her, but our vet said she was more like 10, but that didn’t matter anyway. She loved to go to the beach but hated the water. She liked to go for long walks and sniff her way around. She wasn’t much for other dogs – a bit jealous – and she pined for us all the time. She would sigh or whine when she was disappointed. She loved to sleep and was desperate for us to be in the same room with her.”
When Manning found a lump on the old dog in January she took her to the vet once again.
“He said her kidney disease was still at bay, but that she had cancer,” Manning said. “Within a week, she was gone.” (more…)

Basil T. Ratbone

Hi Mark..just got done reading your book “Rescuing Sprite” and really loved the simplicity of it. I really learned about you as a person, not a personality.
Thanks so much for sharing.. I am going to use the book as a tool to convert my extreme leftist colleague in her political ideology.. She loves dogs, hates anything Right. She will read the book just because of the topic and somehow it may open the door in her mind via intrigue about the icons of the Right.. I’m also praying it may open the door into her acknowlegement of the presence of God Almighty (more…)
