Hi Mark, I finished reading your book the other night. I bought it for my wife for Christmas so I waited for her to read it first. We had to let our dog go July 21 last year. Her name was Sophie she was a bassett with papers but my wife found her at the Humane Society. She had grown up with a Bassett named Chester. Our dog Sophie got cancer and suffered some of the same symptoms as Sprite. She was 12 years old and the vet told us also that the treatments would be hard on her. We opted for the steroids and she came back strong for a few months and we were grateful. Then she started going downhill fast. She lost the use of her hind legs one day and started scooting around the house and the pain killers were not helping much. We knew we had to let her go.
The night before I was up most of the night on the floor trying to comfort her. The vet used the same method as you described in the book. We stayed with her and the vet gave us some time alone with her afterwards. We have her ashes, pictures and her collar hangs on the hook by the back door. We miss her terribly. We thought the best way to honor Sophie was to rescue another Dog. We now have a dog named Daisy who has made herself right at home. Thanks for your book, your show and all the great work you do.

On March 13, 2009. We had to put our beloved dog, Sierra down. Her mind and soul were still strong but her body was failing. She was my Shadow. From lessons I learned in Rescuing Sprite, I realized that it was important that Sierra not suffer for Stacey and I inability to realize the time was here. We held hands when Sierra had her last breaths and heard her last heart beats. Our other two pets joined us shortly afterwards and the most amazing thing was when our cat Herman (who my wife thought did not get along with Sierra) laid down next to Sierra as a sign of love. We will never forget Sierra as she lives in our hearts and souls and as made us better people.
I miss you Shadow.
We Love You Sierra!!!!
Thank you Great One for such a helpful story. Keep up the good fight.

Stubbie came to my Wife, before we were married, she had her for 7 years. Rescued from a no-kill animal shelter, she was terrified of everything! Severely abused, her poor tail was only 3 inches long, bent and deformed. She was a Lag mix, Black, with a white chest. One ear standing up, the other only halfway! She hated men, until I came in the picture. After 3 months, she was MY dog! God couldn’t have given us a more faithful, and sweet friend! She would meet us at the door, and “sing” for us. She could also tell time! One minute after her feeding time, she would let you know you were late! Her poor body gave out on her, in December, at the age of 15. I couldn’t be there to say goodbye, and My Wife didn’t let her leave alone. I wish I had a photo to post, but She would run and hide from cameras, and flashlights. God only knows, how she had been abused. My wife and I miss her everyday, and look forward to seeing her again. Amazing how such a sweet, timid creature, can capture your heart so completely! Run, Stubbie, across the fields and through the woods, as you did in your youth! We’ll find you! Thank you for allowing me to share.

I have a 12 year old Weimaraner, Tess and a rescued pound puppy named Winston.
I read Rescuing Sprite and really connected with the story. Dog lovers everywhere understand the depth of love shared.

I got my baby Lucy from a rescue (at the advice of Mark), and God could not have sent me a better companion than her. Plus, the very first day that Lucy and I were together, she told me that she’s a CONSERVATIVE!!! LOL! God Bless You Mark Levin!!!
