Cheyenne

Right as I’m typing this, I’m listening to Mark’s show streamed from yesterday. He’s talking about his dog Sprite.

This past Monday, October 22, I had to put my best friend to sleep. It was one the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life.

Cheyenne, was an American Eskimo dog. She was a gift to me for Mother’s Day 1992 and she was part of my family for over 15 years. She was with me during the good times and she helped me deal with some of the roughest times in my life. Whenever the chips were down, my little girl was there to lick my face and always had this big smile on her face. I was truly blessed to have this sweet little soul in my life.

I will always remember the good times. Cheyenne loved to go for long walks. It didn’t matter if it was snowing, raining, thundering and lightning. She would get her leash when she saw me put my sneakers on. I would take her hiking and she even had her own little back pack, which I would load up with doggie biscuits and her water bowl. We would then go swimming in the river. I remember one summer when the river was very low due to a lack of rain. There were a ton of crawfish in there. We started walking on the stepping stones across the river to the other side. Cheyenne was right behind us, dodging all the little lobster monstrosity crawfish. She kept trying to nip them through the water. She learned quickly when one of those little guys clipped her on the nose!

Adoped A Greyhound

Hi Mark. I just love you and your show. We adoped a greyhound in February of this year. She’s been such a joy to me and my husband! She’s so beautiful and is so playful. I have never seen a dog that loves stuffed toys as much as her. Her name is Snow. When I started hearing stories about what they do to these beautiful, graceful dogs after they are no longer useful to the industry it just broke my heart. I knew I could only rescue one. I wanted to rescue them all!

Sarge

Sarge died more than 20 years ago. I have not had a dog since, largely due to my military career moving me to all parts of the world. I am finally ready to reconnect with my inner-dog, begin speaking dog-speak, and relearn the joy of playing catch.

Sarge was named after a dog my dad had as a boy. I have considered naming my new dog Sarge, too. However, I think it best to move to a new name that keeps the same spirit… I am leaning toward “Scout”. It doesn’t matter what kind of dog he is, I know he will quickly become a friend and confidant. He must… he is, after all, a dog.

Vito and Pinot

Not a lot to say here other then my wife and I love our pugs very much. The fawn colored male is Vito, and his black sister is Pinot. As you can see they are helping me navigate the crazy interstates of MN. Its a tough job! They also provide great security between their lengthy naps. Pinot will rest on a straw bale making sure no chickens escape the coop when I’m picking eggs and both are great lap warmers.

Jack Our Forever Buddy

My story begins 16 years ago when after the hit and run and tragic death of our 9 month old scottie Duffy, my 8 year old twins convinced me that we should get another dog. After some research my husband and I decided that a Retriever either golden or labrador would be the perfect dog for us as a family. I wanted to adopt a dog not a puppy as there are so many full grown dogs needing families. I put out the word that I was looking for a dog to adopt, I wanted the dog to be at least 1 year old, house broke (if possible) and used to children. It took about 6 months before the call came that a friend of a friend had a dog that they where eager to find a home for.

I met “Luigi” on a Saturday morning. To call it love at first sight would be an understatement. Luigi was about 1 1/2 years old and had been a Christmas present puppy for 3 boys. It did not take very long for that adorable puppy to quickly out grow his home. The family he had belonged to just did not realize how active and large a Black Lab could be. Luigi was tied to a stake in an almost non-existant yard when I first saw him. I went to him and offered my hand for him to smell, he licked it and I fell to my knees and hugged him. 15 minutes later Luigi had jumped into my car and off we sped to his new home where my husband and the twins were anxiously waiting for our new friend. Once home we all decided that he was not a Luigi, he was a Jack. As my son declared that “you can depend on a Jack”.
