My Beloved Sheba…

Last year I lost my beloved Sheba… she was THE dog I’d wanted since I was a young boy.

About a month after her passing I posted a memorial on our website… the full story of Sheba. I created that page so that no matter where I was, I could see her pictures on my website and relive our story. I hope you enjoy our story…

Lady

Her beautiful name was Lady. She was a beagle. We asked if we could have her brought out of her cage at the mall. She ran all over the pet store in circles and disrupted the whole store. We knew we had to have her. She was more than we could afford, Who cares, we boughtg her.. I was 30 when I bought my beautiful Lady, I grew old with her. Good times…. you bet. Then came the sad times, coming upstairs and finding her, at 14 years old, head in a corner, bleeding from the mouth and nose. I knew what I had to do. I took her to the vet and spent more money my family didn’t have to try and save her. I told my wife we didn’t have this sort of money to spend on the dog. Her response….Would you spend that kind of money on me, because she’s family just like me.

Then came the drive to the vet. I knew what was next. I must say I was strong and brave I was not going to feel any emotion or cry. I had a job to do and I knew I was doing the right thing. As we were driving to the vet, she crawled over to me and put her head in my lap. She looked up at me with the trust she had shown in me for 14 years, thats when I started to lose it……we got to the vets and he came out and took my beautiful girl, my best friend out of my arms and walked thru these swinging doors….I was still doing O.K. then as the swinging doors opened….she looked back at me, for the last time. I was toast. Yes a big man can be brought to his knees with the look from an old friend. Especially the “last look” like “hey I’ll see you in a while, won’t I my master”…..

My Story

Mark,

I am so happy that your show is on XM radio now, I never miss the show now.

Like yourself, I am an aminal lover, I will not pass a dog without making friends with it first, One day, whin I was pulling into my truck companys yard in Riverside, Ca, I saw this white dog, as I parked my truck, The dog came up and wanted to get in my truck.

I went into the dispatch office and asked about the dog. I was told that she had been hanging around for two weeks.
They said that the dog pound had been called to come and get the dog, because everytime a truck left, the dog would chase the truck out onto the highway, they were afraid that she would get hit out on the highway.

The poor guy from the pound, he looked all over the yard for her???
I couldn’t tell him that she was sleeping in my truck?
Where she has been sleeping for 5 years now.

Bauer

Hi Mark.

I’d like to introduce you to my best friend of the four legged type.  Her name is Bauer.  She came to my husband and I seven years ago when we adopted her as a stray from our local shelter.  We never knew we were getting such a beautiful animal.  I truly feel blessed to have her in my life.  Over the years, we have received many offers from visitors and family members to adopt her if something happened and we could no longer keep her.  She is the sweetest and most gentle dog I have ever known.  Now that we have two children (ages 5 and 3), she is their best friend too.  She is so special to my son, he took her to school last year for Show and Tell.  Enjoy my pictures.  She is beautiful.  Keep up the good work.  You are truly a great American.

Boomer

This is about my beloved Boomer. Boomer came to me 10 years ago when I found him runing across a highway near where my wife and I live. He almost was hit twice by cars. I was able to lasso him and get him in my car.
He had to be the saddest looking Beagle I had ever seen. He smelled so bad and weighed a measly 20 lbs for his size.
He had no tags so it was obvious someone dumped the poor guy.

I got him home, gave him a bath and good meal and named him Boomer for the Philles mascot that my wife loves.
From that day forward we bonded like father and son. I know it sounds odd to some, but since we do not have children, our pets are our kids, and Boomer especially my son.

Guardian of the Night

Dakota, a fantastic Police Dog was killed yesterday, October 24 near Brush Prairie, WA. The alleged killer was unruly, unrepentant as he appeared in court, but may face a life term. I have the honor of knowing his handler and loyal friend Roger Evans who took him in his arms and carried him from the scene. Our hearts and prayers go out to Roger, his family, The Vancouver Police Department and all who knew Dakota. I am reminded of something I once read: Trust in me my friend, for I am your comrade. I will protect you with my last breath, when others have left you, I will be at your side. I will gladly take up your fight for I am a Police Working Dog and together We are Guardians of the Night.
