Coming to Grips

I just finished reading your book Rescuing Sprite. I have found it to be very well written and inspiring. I say inspiring because about two weeks ago we had to have our 13 year old Labrador Retriever put to sleep. That was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. I know you understand. This book has helped me come to “grips” with that decision. His ashes sit just above me on the computer desk.

I guess I mainly want to thank you for writing the book. I am sure if it helped me it will surely help others.

Thank you Mark Levin and I wish you the best.

Bassett

We have a 2-year-old ‘back-yard-bread’ Bassett. She is a wonderful dog but has some health issues (I assume because of too much inbreading). I am in the market for another one of these wonderful dogs but wanted to make sure to avoid health problems as much as possible. Hence, I’d been looking at full-bread Bassetts with papers et. al.
After reading Rescueing Sprite and listening to Mark’s heart felt plees to adopt from a shelter, I have decided to take a Bassett from a rescue shelter and donate the money that I would have spent on a ‘full-bread’ dog to that shelter. More to follow once I have our new family member. In the mean time I can’t help but share this picture of our Gooseberry (at about one year old).

Muffin, Ashes

My family just lost our younger dog (11 years) Muffin. We had to have her put down on Valentine’s Day.
She was a phantom toy poodle and a playmate for our other black toy poodle, Ashes (15 years, and often mistaken for a puppy).

I had been ill for a couple of years and Muffin had become my constant companion. She was happiest when she could lie on my feet or be on my lap. Tho Muffin got so very sick she refused to give up and kept on for my sake I am sure. She never wanted to leave my side, and we did not want to give her up. But it became clear that she started to have pain, and had no intention of leaving my arms. We had her put down the next morning.

My husband ordered your book about Sprite for me. I have been reading it in small bits, as I was brought to tears. But I found a kindred spirit, and an explanation in writing of what we are going through.
Reading about Sprite helped me feel better.
Thank you, Mark.

Riley

Riley came to us on his own….we heard him outside our house one rainy night just howling away. He was so beautiful I knew he must belong to someone…..but he woudln’t go home! He camped out on our porch for 3 days when I decided to bring him in.
What joy he was. Lovable, funny and sweet as can be.
When the real owner did show up (after many failed attempts at locating her) I refused to give him up.
Long story short, we got to keep this gorgeous boy and he was my best friend for many years.
He finally got too old to go on and I made the hardest decision of my life, to let him go peacefully.
