Listener Stories

Thank You

We heard your piece with John Wayne speaking \”America, America,\” while we were in our car listening to your show.  We were driving toward the most beautiful mountains in Oregon on a clear day on Memorial day weekend and John Wayne speaking about our wonderful country and us seeing the beauty and strength of those mountains was so amazing for both of us.  THANK YOU for being who you are – we LOVE your show, we LOVE your book and keep doing what you do – we are listening.

MacGreggor

I was living in Houston, when our family Cairn Terrior named MacGreggor was sent to me by my partents to live out his retirement years. He was flown from Wisconsin to Texas via SW Airlines. He was 12 yrs old. I was the chosen sibling out of 6 to take him in during his elderly years because we had a special bond and I was the animal lover of the family. He lived with me and my husband for 4 more years and subsequently suffured a stroke and had to be put down. I was devestated. I drove to the vet several times with Mac and sat in my car crying. I wasn’t able to go through with it and I always ended up back home with Mac in my lap. I loved him so much! Eventually my husband noticed my torment and said he would do it. I sat in the waiting room while he took Mac in with the vet. That was the last time I saw him alive. He was creamated and given back to me in pretty wooden box. I brought him back to Wisconsin to be buried in my parents backyard where had he spent his younger years as ‘king of the yard’. It was winter at the time so we had to wait for spring to dig a hole under the tree he loved. Meanwhile my father was diagnosed with leukemia and all attention went to him for the next 4 years. during this time Mac sat in my mothers laundryroom waiting to be buried. My Father died 4 years later in October 2005. Our family was devestated again. Two beloved family members gone. The night of my Fathers Wake my 5 siblings and I went to dinner. We started to talk about Mac and how my Dad was always so kind to him. My Father loved him too. We never got around to burying Mac and he was still on the shelf in my mother’s laundryroom. We all decided at that my Father and Mac would be buried together. The next day before the my Father’s funeral we took the wooden box with MacGreggor in it and set in the coffin in the crook of my fathers arm. They were buried together that day. My beloved Father and my beloved MacGreggor. May they rest in peace. We Love You!
(PS the pic is of another Cairn but is the spitting image of our MacGreggor.)

Scotty

Scotty was purchased at a huge discount from a pet store in a mall in Knoxville. He had a terrible case of kennel cough. His lungs were 75% full of fluids. The University of Tennessee Animal Medicine College saved his young life even though they did not give him much of a chance. Scotty would have been put to death if someone had not bought him. And he would have died if someone had not had the gumption to see he got the best of medical care. Scotty had never been outside a caged environment his entire young life of four months. When we brought him home from UT and we turned him loose in the back yard he ran and ran and ran and ran; free at last, free at last.

Scotty is now past his 10th birthday and going strong. He has never had another sick day. By the way, Scotty is a hugger. You pick him up and he wraps his forelegs and head around your neck and hugs. The UT vet school is one of the best in America. When Obama nationalizes health care I am declaring myself a dog and will use the UT vet school.

Naughty Dogs

I’ve been listening to Mark for about a year or so and have renewed my love for dogs listening to all the stories. I bought two puppies!! gorgeous dogs.. and I bought a copy of Liberty and Tyranny! Before I finished reading it, the dogs found it ! Just chewed up the corner a bit, nothing to keep me from enjoying it even more!

Geddy

Great One,
Here is a photo of our Blue Heeler, Geddy.  Sporting his patriotic colors. This is our first dog since we were married over 32 years ago. If this wonderful friend is any indication, we realize we\’ve missed out on so much. And actually it was after reading your book about Sprite that we decided to get him.
Thanks so very much.
