Listener Stories

Favorite, True Friends

Mark, I listen to you every night. I read your book about Spirte and loved it.
Dogs are my favorite and really are true friends. A lot better than people I know.
God bless you and I hope we meet Srite in dog heaven.

Max

A listener called in last night about his shepard mix doggie (who is having hind leg and other problems–13 yrs old). Please tell him to immediately put him on Coasim DS (3 times a day for the first 2 month or so and then in AM and PM afterwards). Don’t buy it at Pet Stores or from your VET–its 3 times as expensive–Get it (human form–same thing) from Cosco ($70 for 230 pills).
My baby–Maxie–was on it for 12 years–and it was the only thing that helped him (when he was 8 years old–the VET added a pain killer for him). Max was a belgium sheepdog (a pound puppy)–who evidently had been overbreed (he was born with hip dysplasia (sp??)–someone tied him to the fence of the pound and I feel in love with him (he was so homily as a puppy–but he was the most beaufiful baby I ever had). I took him to his first (and last) obedience class–and all the other dogs would sit –except Max who would lay down (and then not get up). The doctor had told me to get a dog—due to the death of a loved one (so I would walk more) and I got a dog who wouldn’t (couldn’t walk).
I took him to my VET (he had previously been to the VET that the pound recommended) who diagnosed his problem and recommended specialists –he needed an operation which had to be done by the time he was 12 to 14 months old. $5,000–they break the hip bones and wire them back together); unfortunately the operation was unsuccessful (and the VET was going to amputate one of his legs). Instead I took MAX to the animal hospital in NYC and investigated other alternatives (more…)

Harriet

Greetings, All-

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I bring you the sad news of the passing of Harriet.  After a storied life of more than 15 years, she is finally in doggy heaven.  It has been a blessing to have her as a companion for so many years, and the happy memories outweigh the negative 10,000 to 1.

All of you knew her in some capacity- from siblings weekends at Lycoming college, trips up to the hunting cabin, visiting her and Me-ma, bonfires or visits at our house in Vegas, relaxing on the trampoline with her in Me-mas back yard, being the \”tallest dog in Rutherford\”, and 15 years worth of other stories.  Her tricks were legendary- my favorites were: speak, pray, and of course \”flea check\”.  She would do anything for a bit of cheese.  She was also an accomplished hunter, bagging squirrel, chipmunk, rabbit, and an occasional grasshopper.

Harriet was born in the mountains near Dunbar, PA (south of Pittsburgh), in an area nicknamed \”Cow Rock\”: (more…)

Nimmie

my name is Chloe Hillhouse,i am 12 years old…and i have a story for you about MY dog.i had a dog named nimmie, she was a dalmation who loved me and my sister when we were little.
nimmie was a very protective dog.she wouldnt ever let anything happen to my sister and i.she wouldnt even let my dad come near us unless she reconized his smell.so one day we were moving stuff in and out of the house and we left the door open…when…nimmie saw a cat across the street.she couldnt resist chasing it so she ran tword it.and just as she was crossing the street…a concrete truck had hit her.but the truck had hit her down the street,so my dad charged down the street and came back a half hour later with nimmie in his arms…she died that day ): we had a funeral for her that afternoon.i cried for 6 hours.now every summer when i go outside at my grandmas…i stand at her grave, hoping she is having the time of her life, hoping that she still remembers me.
