Listener Stories

Sierra

On March 13, 2009. We had to put our beloved dog, Sierra down. Her mind and soul were still strong but her body was failing. She was my Shadow. From lessons I learned in Rescuing Sprite, I realized that it was important that Sierra not suffer for Stacey and I inability to realize the time was here. We held hands when Sierra had her last breaths and heard her last heart beats. Our other two pets joined us shortly afterwards and the most amazing thing was when our cat Herman (who my wife thought did not get along with Sierra) laid down next to Sierra as a sign of love. We will never forget Sierra as she lives in our hearts and souls and as made us better people.

I miss you Shadow.

We Love You Sierra!!!!

Thank you Great One for such a helpful story. Keep up the good fight.

Stubbie

Stubbie came to my Wife, before we were married, she had her for 7 years. Rescued from a no-kill animal shelter, she was terrified of everything! Severely abused, her poor tail was only 3 inches long, bent and deformed. She was a Lag mix, Black, with a white chest. One ear standing up, the other only halfway! She hated men, until I came in the picture. After 3 months, she was MY dog! God couldn’t have given us a more faithful, and sweet friend! She would meet us at the door, and “sing” for us. She could also tell time! One minute after her feeding time, she would let you know you were late! Her poor body gave out on her, in December, at the age of 15. I couldn’t be there to say goodbye, and My Wife didn’t let her leave alone. I wish I had a photo to post, but She would run and hide from cameras, and flashlights. God only knows, how she had been abused. My wife and I miss her everyday, and look forward to seeing her again. Amazing how such a sweet, timid creature, can capture your heart so completely! Run, Stubbie, across the fields and through the woods, as you did in your youth! We’ll find you! Thank you for allowing me to share.

Winston

I have a 12 year old Weimaraner, Tess and a rescued pound puppy named Winston.
I read Rescuing Sprite and really connected with the story. Dog lovers everywhere understand the depth of love shared.

Lucy

I got my baby Lucy from a rescue (at the advice of Mark), and God could not have sent me a better companion than her. Plus, the very first day that Lucy and I were together, she told me that she’s a CONSERVATIVE!!! LOL! God Bless You Mark Levin!!!

Duffy

My brother, his wife and I operated a golf range alongside a moderately busy state highway. One day a dog appeared and refused to go away. I’m now ashamed to admit that we tried to disuade him from staying. Fortunately, he refused to go away and eventually we fed and watered the guy.

He simply would not eat while anyone was in view, so we moved the bowl to a private location where he replenished in peace. He was extremely cautious and let no one near him.

No one responded to ads in the paper or pet stores.

After some time he realized we had no intent to harm him and he never left the property, although he freely roamed within the confines and the boundaries which he somehow instinctively recognized.

Soon, a golfer arrived with a child in tow and we were astonished to see the dog, a Shelty, race toward the child in a decidedly friendly manner. He and the little girl played while the dad practiced. As any adukt approached, he fled

Eventually, as you have by now deduced, he became a fixture on our range. His fear of adults gradually dissolved over the months, except for the occasional male who must have reminded him of some past unpleasantness.

I named him ‘Duffer’ even though he never even attempted to hit a ball. He had no interest in rounding them up either (dang it!).

So, ‘Duffy,’ as we called him was loved by every child not afraid of dogs and allowed many a parent to practice at peace while he entertained the kids. It was great not having to babysit them ourselves, as well.

We sold the range a couple of years ago and my (big) brother absconded with Duffy and moved to another state. It’s a 350 mile drive (one way) to see him, but it’s worth it every time. Don’t tell my brother that’s why I show up, okay?

Brandi

Thanks for offering this, I am sad and this is a place to release at bit. My wonderful dog Brandi was put down this morning. She was eleven almost 12 and brought joy to my wife 4 children and me everyday she was with us. I still remember her chasing after my daughters as they ran down the incline of our backyard, grasping their T-shirts from behind so they would not fall on their faces. Never any attempt to train, she new what I meant with a word or even a gesture. Wonderful animal and she will be missed. Thanks again Mark.
