Listener Stories

Emma, Jessie

Hello Mark,
About 5 years ago we had the good fortune to have had 2 Golden retrievers. The first was a young puppy that we named Emma. She turned out to be the most wonderful dog we have ever had! Our second was from a shelter and she had been abandoned. We named her Jessie!
Emma was a very special dog. She was very intelligent. We lived on 13 acres south of Mpls MN with a large pond where ducks and geese would migrate through and nest. One day Emma swam over to the island in the middle of the pond and came back with an egg in her mouth! So gently that no damage was done to the egg. She gave it to me as if a gift! Needless to say we shared many wonderful times together. Every morning she would come to our bed and put her muzzle on the mattress and let out a loud exhale as if to tell me it’s time to wake up now. Unfortunately, late in 2003 she became very ill. We tried to have her diagnosed but the vet said it was hopeless and that it was most likely cancer of the liver. Her belly had swollen and the whites of her eyes had turned yellow. We had to put her down and our whole family was devastated!
As if she could not live without her, within 2 weeks, Jessie became ill with what appeared to be a stroke and died. We were totally heartbroken! Without any warning we had lost 2 beautiful dogs within several weeks.
We are now retired and have sold those 13 acres. We hope that someday we will be able to have another dog as wonderful as Emma or Jessie!
Sincerely,

Ralph & Mary from FL

PS: Our son Eric deploys to Iraq at the end of this week. Please keep him in your prayers!

Pete

We bought Pete in hopes of raising and selling his puppies, but it became too difficult to part with the furry little bundles, so he is in retirement now. He is 12 years old, mostly deaf, mostly, blind, racked with arthritis, won’t let anybody near him but me, but he has been a soul mate to me. My husband was in the military for years and Pete was there with me. The defining moment for me was about ten years ago when we had brought in a stray to try and give him a good home. We had two other female dogs in the house at the time and Pete looked at this outsider as a threat to his harem. He attacked the other dog and they rolled down the hallway in a ball of teeth and fur. I kicked at the dogs trying to get them to separate. Not to hurt them, but trying to get them to separate. I accidently caught Pete right in the ribs and he went rolling down the hall on his own. The other dog scampered off under the bed and to safety. (more…)

Cassie

I found Cassie on the internet after losing a beloved dog a year earlier. I rescued her and she has been the love of our family. She was 9 years old at the time of her resue and has ben a part of our family for almost 6 years. She is a beautiful Shih Tzu and a gentle dog. She is aging with much grace. My son is a big fan of yours and has given your new book to all in his family. He is educating us all through what he hears and reads from you.

Our Dogs

I have 3 Beagles and 1 Border Collie.  I never had a dog as a child and my husband bought the beagles  to hunt with.  Well, they had 1 tour of the woods, got lost for a week and I\’ve never let them out of my sight since. Jessie is our show dog.
She\’s won lots of awards for her skills in agility and she\’s the most fun-loving dog we have.   They have given me a new sense of understaning and compassion.  I love them very much.

Parker

This is Parker. She was born on 09-01-08 and she is a Schnoodle, a mix between a Schnauzer and a Poodle.

She answers to “Parker”, “Park”, and “Park Levin” – her official nickname. She brings our family unlimited happiness and is living proof that dogs are better people than most humans.

God Bless You Mark Levin for all you do.

Sincerely,

Anthony from CA

Snooper

My best friend Snooper is coming to the end of her life.
Snooper is a hound mix although I really don;t know all the mixes in her. I don’t know how old she really is. Somewhere around 14 or 15.
She has liver cancer and I can see it spreading over her body. She is still eating and wants to go for walks, but they have shortend the over the past few days.
I have been giving her meds and an herb that the vet says will slow the progress of the cancer.
I am heart broken over this as Snooper and I have lived alone 14 years. We went fishing together walks and rides. I have a job that takes lots of hours away from home each day and Snooper waited for me all of her life. I would take her to work with me on Sundays and I would water plants as I own a garden center.
I said that I would not take her life. I believe that all living things deserve to fight for their own lives.
I still believe that, but the thoughts of putting her to sleep keep creeping into my head.
She is not ready for that yet as she will drink and eat. She smiles at me and my heart melts.
I ask God not to put me through this, but here it is.
I can’t consentrate at work.
My temper is not good and have high bp. I cry a lot and I know there is much more to come.
I really pray that God will take her on his own and I won’t have to pull the plug. I would like to think that I did everything possible for her. But somehow I think I will always think I missed something.
I am a 48 yr old man and Snooper is as much a part of my life as anything ever has been.
Mark, If you read this, I listen to you almost every night and I think you are the best. I will get Rescuing Sprite someday. Right now I need to try to rescue Snooper.

Thanks for reading
