Listener Stories

Tuesday

I want to take a brief moment and tell you the story of a wonderful dog named Tuesday. Tuey was and remains our Angel Girl.

Tuesday was, I believe, God’s gift to us and we will be forever thankful.
Tuey was the living definition of love and life. She had a smile that would brighten every moment and we held ‘paws’ during the hard times. She taught us, my husband and myself, that even though we were not blessed with being able to have children, God had a way of allowing that unconditional love into our hearts and our lives. She taught us that no matter how difficult things may be there was always time to chase the squirrels..

Our Tuey, unfortunately, always had health issues, but you could not tell her that! She kept us moving even when she herself could barely walk. At about the age of 8 she developed what we thought was arthritis, later we were discovered that she could not move her back legs. We of course rushed her to the vet, it was diagnosised as degenerative myleopathy. It is a neurological condition that causes the rear end area from about the mid back down, not to function. Her days of chasing squirrels were over, or so we thought! The vet told us that we had two options, put her down or learn how to care for her. We chose the latter.

Megs Story

Our 14 year old golden retriever’s name is Shiloh’s Golden Nutmeg ‘n Irish Cream but we just call her “Meg”… or Meggie, Megster, Moogie, Pookie… well you get the picture.

We so love this dog. We bred her and her mom and a whole bunch of siblings. We are true “Retriever Believers!”

Meg has had many health issues over the last several years all with what seems to be leading to an iminent death but dang if she doesn’t bounce back and once again become that playful, spontaneous, creative little play friend to our family.

What will we do without her? Goldens don’t live forever do they? We can’t think about it without becoming immediately wounded. She loves us when we aren’t very lovable. She cheers us when we are sad. She comforts us when we feel alone. We make every momemt with this little member of our family a memory and treat/spoil her to all kinds of neat things. We also tell her repeatedly she can never get in trouble anymore either so live it up! :D

So Sprite’s story is kindof Meg’s story. We appreciate the opportunity to share her with The Great One and all his fans.

Elle

Elle appreciates that we deliver a good meal each day to her 86 year-old homebound master plus a biscuit for her. We estimate around 20% of our 700 consumers have pets, overwhelmingly dogs.

Eulogy For My Dog

Tragedy struck my home again this week — my beloved dog Mainge went to doggie heaven. This comes on the heels of losing my father several months earlier.

I am at a loss to explain her death; she wasn’t sick or injured. She had no physical problems whatsoever. The day of the night she passed was a typical day in her life. She was playing around with my other two dogs, Ingrid and Bella; she chased a few squirrels; she took a ride with me in the car to run a few errands; she ate her dinner, took a nap, woke up, shared some of my dinner, played around some more. Then as night fell she jumped up on the couch, curled up and went to bed. Shortly after, I decided to do the same. I scrunched her on the head with my forehead, holding her head in both hands as I always did when saying goodnight to her, did the same to my other dogs, and went to bed.

When I woke up the next morning, I immediately noticed something strange – only two dogs were in my bed instead of the usual three. I went into the next room and saw Mainge on the couch, right where I had left her eight hours before. But I knew there was something wrong. Her head was hanging off the couch and her tongue was hanging out of her open mouth. And when I picked her up, her body was stiff and cold.

Scarlett

Her AKC name was Scarlett but we called her Snookie (well, my mom named her!). She was the ultimate Good Dog, only wanted to please each member of the family. When I first introduced the guy who would become my husband to the family, she was the one who had veto power. She LOVED him and from that day on she was his pal.

Leilani

In response to your request over the air, I am sharing with you my very special little friend. Her name is Leilani and she is a thoroughbred Pomeranian of four years. What a wonderful animal friend she is and I can only guess at the grief in your heart for your loss. Best wishes.
