Tripoli

The Southern Command will be dark for awhile.

My best friend… sometimes my only friend… died suddenly this morning. Tripoli was my soul mate since he took over my life nine incredibly short years ago. Through the best of times and the worst of times he was there… until this morning.

The only person he ever bit was my ex-wife. If only I’d had the good sense to follow his lead.

In the dark times, late at night, bathed in the blue white light of the television, with a bottle of whiskey and my Glock, we defied them… and won.

The house is now terribly still, quiet… my guess is it will remain so.

At this point, I have but few words. Tripoli kept me from thinking about my own mortality… hyper-alter, hyper-active and hyper with his love… of food and, well, all things that moved.

He changed my life when he came, and now I really don’t know what I’ll do.

I’d appreciate it… if those who are so inclined would say a prayer for Tripoli for his journey.

I know we’ll meet again… because all Good Dogs go to Heaven.

I hope I can make the cut.

    Gary,

We don’t know for sure if our pets are in heaven, but I know our God, and I think He would bring something (our pets) so loved by us to where we are.

I will keep you in my prayers. I know how devastating this loss is. I still grieve over my Baxter who passed 3 years ago. We went through a month of intensive medical treatment. Seeing what a loving gentleman he was through it all only made me love him more. I sent in the poem I wrote for Baxter and a picture, to Mark’s website. If it happens to get posted you will understand how I understand your grief. Be well

I am so sorry. I can feel your hurt through the computer. What a special dog-such a sweet face. We have been rescuing for years, and now that I lost my husband this year, my fear is losing my animals because I can’t afford our home. I will pray for your Tripoli, and I ask you to pray that my animals and I can stay in our home so they aren’t homeless again. I don’t think I could survive losing them.

    Dear Gary,

I am so sorry for your loss of Tripoli. What a beautiful dog, I love the coloring of the fur around his face. Please know your Tripoli is running and playing and having a great time with all of our friends that we have lost. I’m sure from reading these postings you know you are not alone in your grief, and although I can’t really say it gets “better”, it does get a little easier in time.

    Warmest Regards,
    Kim

    Gary,
I have said a prayer for both of you,,,I do not pray that often,,,it is not in me. I too look at a small fur baby everyday that keeps me on this planet. I am thankful for his love, and his putting up with my crazy bipolar ass. He has limited time left for he is dying of vaccine sarcoma. You and I ,,,we are blessed to have had these souls in our life. I hope that when his time comes he can meet your Tripoli in a place where they can run and play. Although Gigilo is a cat, he has a lot of Dog in him, as he was around them very much growing up. My Heart goes out to you Gary in Texas,,,put the whiskey up and the glock,,Tripoli would not want that. I am going to have to take my own advice when the time comes to put him down,,,I do not think that my heart can take it, but ,,,I love him more than anything , and it is the right thing to do. I love him more than my ex husband and current Man,,lol,,,For that I think you can understand..!!!! Be well. And cry,,it is a good thing.

Your story truly touched my heart. My sincere sympathy for your loss. I am convinced that my dog (Henry) saved me as well. I actually found him wandering the road near my former home. He was near death, but just a pup…I was in a very difficult time in my life…you could say we saved each other. Be assured, you will make the cut and be alongside your best friend once more.
