Tara
This is my Tara or rather was my Tara. I could also write an entire book about this magnificant dog and friend. She lived 13 years and was a puppy from day one till that fateful day when I held her in my arms and let her slip off to Retriever Heaven. I’d give anything to have her back at my side. I always thought she should be a little more stoic, being the daughter of a great field champion retriever and all; but basically she was just a large goofball. That is until the scent of bird caught her nose. Then she was off to the office to work; very serious and on a mission to eliminate all feathered foes from our sight. She can never be replaced; and sadly for my family – she hasn’t been. She’s been gone for over 7 years now and our home has not been graced with the presence of another set of paws. I’ve had dogs all my life; but after this one, I just haven’t been able to get myself to sell my heart to another. Maybe someday. I hope so. A house is just not a home without dog hair on the sofa.

This looks just like my Dog when I was growing up. His name was Mike. He was a Hunter. I know some people don’t like the hunting going on, but if we never took some of this game they would over populate and have much harder lives. I do understand if you don’t like the hunting. If you don’t stop reading now. Remember this Dog (Mike) was raised to hunt.
My Step-Father (Jim) and I went Duck hunting with Mike in 1965. I was 6 years old. Mike was so smart. Jim was a great aim. On this day early in the morning on the lake. Jim called some ducks and they came flying to use. Mike was very excited. Jim took two shots with the 12 gauge and hit 3 birds. Mike hit the water as soon as the Ducks were coming down. It was a cold winter day. Mike swam out and got 1 Duck and brought it back. Mike went back in the water and got another Duck. He starting swimming back to the Hunting Blind and Jim snapped his fingers and pointed to the third duck. Mike swam over to the third duck and brought them both back to the blind. Mike was a Great Hunter.
I haven’t thought of them for awhile until I seen this picture. I just noticed your name is Jim too. Thank you for bringing back a great memory from when I was a very small boy. My Dog now is Ruby the 125 Rotty. I have Ruby and My story on Marks Corner too.
Jim died on Oct 30th 1979. Mike died around 1972. I sure do miss my two friends. “Jim and Mike were a Great Team and they loved to Hunt.”

Your Dog Tara reminds me of Mike my Dog when I was a very small boy. I seen this picture and got a tear in my eye.
As I think of this and type I can’t see to well because tears are rolling down my face thinking of Jim my Stepfather and Mike our Black Lab. but I will try to tell you this story.
I haven’t thought of them Mike (our Lab) or Jim ( My Step-Father) for awhile.
Mike was a Hunter. My Step-Father Jim and I went Wild Duck hunting with Mike in 1965. I was 6 years old. It was a cold early morning on the lake. Jim called some wild ducks and they came flying to us. Mike was very excited. 3 birds came down. Mike jumped into the water. He swam out and got 1 wild duck and brought it back. Mike went back in the water and got the second duck. He starting swimming back to the Hunting Blind and Jim snapped his fingers and pointed to the third duck. Mike swam over to the third duck and brought them both back together to the blind. Mike was so smart and a Great Hunter.
I just noticed your name is Jim too. Thank you for bringing back a great memory from when I was so young. Jim died on Oct 30th 1979. Mike died around 1972.
They were a Great Team and they loved to Hunt.
My Dog now is Ruby the 125 Rotty on Mark’s Corner. I sure am glad I have Ruby to hug right now as the tear keep coming down. I guess I’m a softy too.
