Dear Mark…..We heard you on Rush Limbaugh’s show today and we were so impressed with your compassion for Sprite. We regret that you lost your beautiful buddy. We had to have our beloved cat, Beau, euthanized 11/06/06.
He had a lymphoma in his chest and could no longer eat…..just had water from a syringe. We were with him as he breathed his last breath and we miss him more and more each day. He was more like a son to us but some folks do not understand that. Beau was an inside cat and very affectionate….a lapper and sometimes a little comedian when he tapped on the bathroom door to be allowed in. We have him buried on our property in a little casket. A monument covers his grave with his photo and the words, “Beau…our best friend.” A statue of St. Francis of Assisi guards his grave. We do understand your grief and love for Sprite and admire your willingness to share those thoughts with your fans. May our beloved pets all meet over the Rainbow Bridge, waiting to greet us some day.
Sincerely,
Toni from NJ

Today as I hopped into my car and turned on the radio to listen to Rush, I heard him introduce Mark Levine as he was being interviewed for a new book he had just published. As he began to talk about the heart wrenching decision to put his dog down, I again started sobbing uncontrollably. You see, I just put my dog, my best friend to sleep forever two days ago and the pain is still as sharp as it was that night. Read the rest of this entry »

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD (I DID NOT SAY OWNED, BECAUSE THEY OWNED ME) 2 DOGS. AFTER LESTER THE MOLESTER DIED I ONLY HAD CRASH LEFT WHO WAS 15. I HAD TO PUT HER DOWN IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004. I DID NOT WANT ANOTHER PET. WE STILL HAD THE CAT, WHO THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT HE HAD OUTLIVED ALL THE DOGS. IN DECEMBER 2004 MY YOUNGEST SON (23) CONVINCED ME TO GO TO THE SHELTER AND FIND A NEW FRIEND. WE ADOPTED A MIXED 3 YEAR OLD WHO WAS NOT USED TO BEING AROUND PEOPLE. ONCE HE GOT ATTACHED TO US WE COULD NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT HIM PULLING ON OUR COATS OR BLOCKING THE FRONT DOOR.
IN JANUARY 2005 HE STARTED TO HAVE SIEZURES. THE VET SAID HE HAD EPILOPSY. Read the rest of this entry »

At present, my husband- Johann- has a three year old Lab named (he came to us with it, honest!): Scooby Doo. He was 54 pounds when our son brought him to us when he discovered he could not have a dog in his apartment complex. The jest of the matter- our son was the pup’s third owner before Scooby was even one year old! Those who bought him were not truly aware how BIG and ‘floppy’ Labs are, one even had him a “lap dog”, longer story short: the pup came down with Parvo a short time after delivered to us, I thought he was a “goner” and we would have to put him down Read the rest of this entry »

Mark,
I have enjoyed your discussions about Sprite, and thought I would share mine. My wife and I started our life together with a golden Pomeranian that we named “Spook” because when we picked him up, he made all kinds of funny noises difficult to describe. My mother asked that we go to the shelter with her first to see if there were any Poms available. Since we were in an apartment at the time, we had to have a small dog. Needless to say, my mother found a shy puppy in the back of a cage, and immediately fell in love with “Lady” – a shepard/bassett mix puppy. Read the rest of this entry »
